Amsterdam's working printmaking studio opens its presses for a night of hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and the smell of fresh ink.
The Graphic Workshop Amsterdam is a unique institution: a working printmaking studio that also functions as a museum of the history of print. On Museum Night, all of the workshop's presses — letterpress, etching, lithography, and screen printing — are in operation, with master printers demonstrating their craft and inviting visitors to try their hand at each technique. A special late-night edition of a Museum Night poster is printed live during the evening, with visitors able to take home a copy. The workshop's collection of historic printing equipment, typefaces, and printed ephemera is on display, with curators explaining the history of print and its role in shaping Amsterdam's culture.
